About This Service
A Shikara ride sounds simple until you are standing at an unfamiliar ghat, unsure which ticket counter is legitimate, with a taxi that dropped you off and left, and no clear plan for getting back. We built this combo specifically to remove that part of the day.
The taxi and the ride are planned as one trip. We pick you up from your hotel or houseboat, take you to a ghat we trust rather than the one nearest the parking, and the timing is built around when Dal Lake actually looks its best, early morning calm or the golden light before sunset.
Most travellers treat this as a half day plan, the ride itself plus a walk along the boulevard or a stop at a floating garden, though it folds just as easily into a fuller day of Srinagar sightseeing if you want to combine it with the Mughal gardens or the old city.
Duration is flexible. Book just the ride and transfer, or extend it into a longer day of Srinagar sightseeing with the same vehicle and driver. Tell us your preferred timing and we will plan around it.
Package Snapshot
- Duration: Flexible, typically 2 to 3 hours for the ride and transfer
- Covers: Hotel or houseboat pickup, drop at the ghat, return transfer
- Vehicle: Sedan for the transfer, SUV available for larger groups
- Best timing: Early morning or late afternoon for the best light
- Shikara ticket arranged at the ghat, paid separately from the cab rate
- Can be extended into a full day of Srinagar sightseeing
Best Timing For Your Shikara Ride
Plan: Transfer Plus Shikara Ride
The timing matters more than most people expect for this particular outing. Here is how the two main windows actually compare.
₹999
STARTING PRICE PER PERSON
Early Morning (Around Sunrise)
Calm water, soft light and far fewer boats out, the quietest version of the ride. Pickup is scheduled early enough to reach the ghat before the lake wakes up.
Late Afternoon (Around Sunset)
Warmer light and a livelier lake, with floating vendors and other Shikaras adding to the atmosphere. The more popular choice, so we plan the pickup with a buffer for ghat traffic.
Inclusions
• Hotel or houseboat pickup and drop
• Transfer to and from the ghat
• Driver who knows which ghat suits your preferred timing
• Toll, parking and driver allowance
Exclusions
• Shikara ride ticket itself
• Houseboat accommodation
• Meals
• Personal expenses

Why Choose Us
Why Choose Kashmir Car Rental Tariff?
Drivers Who Know Which Ghat To Use
Not every ghat around Dal Lake is equal. Our drivers know which ones avoid the worst of the crowds and which suit each time of day.
One Booking, Not Two Separate Arrangements
No coordinating a taxi and a boat operator separately. We plan the timing between both so you are not standing around waiting.
Timing Built Around The Light, Not Just Convenience
We ask what you actually want from the ride, a quiet sunrise or a lively sunset, and plan the pickup around that rather than whatever slot is easiest for us.
Transparent Tariffs
Clear pricing for the transfer, shared upfront so nothing catches you off guard. The Shikara ticket itself is paid directly and clearly explained beforehand.
Eighteen Plus Years Across This Region
Long enough to know Dal Lake's rhythms well, which ghats get busy, which stay calm, and when the light actually looks its best.
What To Expect On The Lake
Floating Gardens
Small cultivated patches on the water, part of how locals have grown vegetables on Dal Lake for generations.
Houseboats Along The Shoreline
Rows of old, ornately carved houseboats, worth a slow pass even if you are not staying on one.
The Floating Market
Active mostly in the early morning, vendors trading produce boat to boat, a genuinely local scene rather than a staged one.
Nehru Park And Char Chinar
A small island with four chinar trees, a common stop partway through a longer Shikara ride.

The best service ever received! They helped in planning the trip. Offered lots of good options for hotel and house boat at discounted rate. They were available every time for the queries. The driver was polite and helpful. The vehicle was in good condition. The driver was very knowledgeable about all good places — be it eating points, or important shops like places where original cricket bats are made, where we can get original dry fruits, pashmina shawl etc.
Unlike other travel packages using this provided us the complete flexibility of doing changes and checking out new places. We could call them at night 9pm and they were responsive.
They made this family trip with parents, a completely wonderful experience! Must recommend!

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a typical Shikara ride last?
Most rides run about an hour, though shorter and longer options exist at the ghat. We build the cab timing around whichever duration you pick.
Is sunrise or sunset the better time for the ride?
Sunrise gives you a quieter lake with fewer boats, while sunset brings warmer light and more activity on the water. Both are worth seeing, so it comes down to what you prefer.
Do you book the Shikara ticket for us, or just the cab?
We arrange the transfer and point you to a ghat we trust, but the Shikara ticket itself is paid directly at the ghat, since rates vary by duration and route.
Can this be combined with a full day of Srinagar sightseeing?
Yes, this is a common request. Let us know and we will extend the booking to cover the Mughal gardens or the old city around the same trip.
Do you provide pickup directly from our houseboat?
Yes, pickup from your houseboat or hotel is included as the starting point for this service.
How far in advance should we book this combo?
During peak season, roughly April through October, we recommend booking at least a day or two ahead, especially for sunset slots which fill up fastest.
